Men bartered their regular suit for a Sherwani and traditional shoes. Women, on the other hand, gleefully traded their glitzy dresses and high heels for a Saree. No, not the kind that actresses wear in their most glamorous avatar, but the kind that they would have probably worn on a family (read: gharelu) function. There was hardly any gossip, and hardly any hush-hush games doing the rounds. In fact, the routine party games were replaced with cockfights, and a typical Punjabi Dance—Bhangra. There were no fancy, western delicacies; It was an intriguing mix of various cultures—the people and the surrounds—something that rightly spruced up the atmosphere in the very typical ‘party frenzy’.
This was Mrs. Joshi’s idea of a Kitty Party that she quite fervently pulled off at her place.
This was Mrs. Joshi’s idea of a Kitty Party that she quite fervently pulled off at her place.
The concept of kitty parties has undergone a whirlwind change in the last few years. New Kitty parties in Delhi NCR are now more about organizing a more agile version of the event. Gone are the days when party women (and men!) would jazz up in dazzling attire and jab away the evening over a few light laughs. As people are taking the whole affair on a more serious bandwidth, there seem to be a lot many things propping up on the platter, Newer Kitty party recipes and bold themes being amongst the few served.
The idea is to revamp what has otherwise begun to appear drab and stereotypical. Some of the very aggressive party people have begun planning year-end trips to islands and beaches to celebrate the idea of a ‘kitty party’. As frivolous and far-fetched as it might seem, the whole affair has already begun taking shape. Mrs. Joshi has started lending it a face, if not for anybody else. A facelift, for that matter, would be more appropriate now, wouldn’t it?
